A New Way of Thinking

I want to explain to you all why I believe that autoimmune diseases are all intensified by body toxicity, crappy American food, less than ideal genetics, and a damaged digestive system. Already it looks complicated, right? It is, and I think that is why so many people have not been able to rid themselves of disease by trying two or three changes in their diet. In the next few paragraphs I am going to try to explain as best as I can why I think Americans are becoming sicker and the new “fad diets” (gluten-free, dairy-free, and vegan) aren’t helping.

I’ve read a lot on health and nutrition and this explanation is what my brain has made of all of that information floating around up there. I’m using really simple words (not technical words) to describe this  because I’m tired and I don’t want to bore you (or myself).

So, in an ideal world, our digestive tract would be full of good bacteria and yeast that help create a good environment for digestion. Good bacteria helps us digest foods. The system would also be full of digestive enzymes excreted by glands in our mouth, stomach, and pancreas. Lastly, the system would also be eliminating our foods quickly (within 24 hrs of being consumed).

However, many factors contribute to a less-than-ideal situation in there. These include, but are not limited to, the following list:

1. Genetics that cause our body to not produce adequate digestive enzymes

2. Antibiotics, steroids, birth control, hormones and antibiotics in our meat supply, etc. These all kill good bacteria and yeast in our system allowing “bad’ bacteria to flourish, including candida albicans, which is a yeast that, when left unchecked, can grow into its fungus form and latch onto the intestinal walls. This fungus secretes a toxin that confuses our immune system and literally poisons our body.

3. Sugar that shocks our system, spikes our blood sugar, and feeds “bad” yeast and bacteria in the intestines.

4. Low-fiber foods that have infiltrated our food supply. Our system can not and will not eliminate feces if there is not enough fiber in the diet, causing the stuff to stay in your body longer, cake onto the walls of your colon, and allow the toxins that your body is trying to excrete to be reabsorbed into your body.

5. Caffeine and Soda have replaced water in our diet. Caffeine is a diuretic (it causes your kidneys to excrete more water). Water is essential to digestion. The same problem that low fiber causes will occur with not enough water.

The list goes on. All or some of these things happen in everyone’s body. When your digestive tract becomes impaired as a result of the above listed situations, food allergies arise. Body toxicity ensues. Immune systems go haywire because of the overwhelmed body. Every body reacts differently to the way we are eating and living these days. So, we must treat our bodies as individuals. You cannot assume that what helped another will help you. Get yourself tested for allergies, adrenal function, gut bacteria and intestinal health, etc. Find a good natural doctor or nutritionist. Figure your own body out. It’s begging you to help it!
